History
"History is fascinating because it is about people, and
nothing interests us more than ourselves!"(Paul Noble 2001)
History is taught throughout the key stages at Dubai English Speaking School. We teach our children the skills of History so that they can continue to study various times in the past and see how we have arrived at the point in time where we now are!
There are five main skills that the children are learning…
Chronological Understanding (time, dates and the language of time) Knowledge and Understanding of events, people and changes in the past (includes causes,
outcomes, differences and similarities) Historical Interpretation (includes reasons for different representations of the past at Key Stage 2) Historical Enquiry (evidence, how to use and select it) Organisation and Communication (the recall and communication of history)These skills are taught through a variety of lesson styles and activities that are differentiated for the individual child's needs.
This will include looking at primary and secondary sources, internet research, studying artifacts, asking questions, interviews, reading journals and diaries, documents, photographs, film, etc.
