BLACK CAT STALKS INTO DESS

At Dubai English Speaking School we value Theatre in Education and therefore were delighted to have the opportunity to welcome The Black Cat Theatre Company. Rather than just a one off play, the company took a different approach by incorporating its audience into its performance. Entitled "Bully 4 You," the show demonstrated different types of bullying incidents and allowed the children to determine how they could be tackled. It brought children up onto the stage and allowed for their enactments to deal with tricky situations. Its message was simple: "we don't approve of bullying. We want you to be independent thinkers and know how you could deal with different types of bullying." The drama came from different perspectives: the bully and the bullied. The children responded very well to the different scenarios, dealing with the problems sensitively and realistically.

The afternoon extended the drama with our Year 5 students. The three members of the theatre team ran a workshop with the children, picking up on the themes developed in the morning.

For our Reception children Black Cat performed a more suitable play, still on the theme of bullying, entitled Tatty Head.

Thank you Black Cat Theatre.
