During the early months of the year, the local dog rescue charity, K9 Friends, was facing the threat of closure after being asked to vacate their kennel premises by May 2007. DJs Catboy and Geordie Bird from the local radio station FM 92 decided to ask schools to help raise funds by organising events by March 15th.

DESS held a Dog Walk with a difference. Children were asked to participate in a sponsored walk around school dressed in any dog paraphernalia they wanted. Children wore dog hats, dog costumes, furry slippers, dog ears, face paint, dog Tshirts, collars and leads - and walked for an hour after school to raise awareness of the plight of our favourite dog charity. The DESS sponsored dog, Kenji, came to lead us on our way.

to everyone who took part or sponsored the children.
We made a whopping 32,500 dhs for the K9 appeal!

The marvellous news is that in April, after a successful awareness campaign, Dubai Municipality offered K9 a piece of land and the funds needed to build new kennels at Al Quoz. The kennels will be built later this year and completed by May 2008. As the charity currently has 139 dogs in its present kennels, this was a welcome relief.
