Year Five Ras Al Khaimah Field Trip 2008

On January 23rd 2008, Year Five went on a very interesting Geography field trip to the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, to visit and explore a Contrasting Locality to Dubai. We saw how Dubai is different from another emirate and we used the information that we found out as part of a Geography and Art project. We observed a fort and the surrounding landscape, discussed our findings with our talk partners, took notes and we sketched what we saw.

We looked at the shops, the roads, the houses and the scenery on the way through Ras Al Khaimah although our focus was Dhayah Fort. The fort is on the coast in Dhayah Bay and was built during the 19th century. It is also the only hilltop fort still existing in the U.A.E. Mr. Mansoori, who is the curator of the fort, and his staff welcomed us with friendly, smiling faces and even gave us a box of dates to take back to school!
We learnt a lot about a contrasting locality and understand the differences between Dubai and Ras Al Kahaimah. Some of us would rather live in Ras Al Khaimah and we all would like to go back soon for another visit to Dhayah Fort.
